*According to
Liam Clancy's book, "The Mountain of the Women", there are two
versions of this record. The first, recorded in 1956, with only
harmonica (by Paddy) and tin whistle (by Tommy M.) accompaniment.
This version (of which about 200 copies were released) was deemed
unsuitable and the same songs were recorded, this time with
guitar, harp and drum accompaniment—and re-released in 1959.
According to Sean McGuinness, "The original release did not have
the name The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem at the top. On the
back, the address for Tradition was on Christopher Street and
there is no mention of Jack Keenan or the harp player. This would
be the 1956 release. The 1959 release included the name of the
group at the top of the front cover and showed Kennan's name on
the back on the top. The version of O'Donnell Aboo features harp
and drum accompaniment (as opposed to the harmonica only on the
1956 release, which ended up on the reissue later). If you have an
orange label, it is not the original label, but a reissue.”
